For churches & servants
Coptic Charades works best with a room full of people. Here's how to use it at youth meetings, Sunday school and retreats.
Where it works well
Youth meetings
An easy opener or closer. Split the room into teams and play a few rounds on the projector.
Sunday school
Pick the deck that matches the lesson, play a round, then go through the words together.
Retreats and camps
Decks are saved on the phone, so it keeps working at a retreat center with no signal.
Family nights
Kids and grandparents can play together. Younger players can tap the sides instead of tilting.
Putting it on the big screen
When the phone is connected to a TV or projector, the big screen shows its own view: the timer, the score, whose turn it is, and each word right after it's answered. The current word stays hidden, so the guesser can face the screen too.
- Apple TV or an AirPlay TV: open Control Center on the phone, tap Screen Mirroring, and choose the TV.
- Projector or TV with a cable: connect with a USB-C or Lightning to HDMI adapter.
- Screen behind the guesser? Turn on Show the word on the TV in Settings so the room can follow along.
A 30-minute session
- 0–5Set up. Connect to the projector, pick a deck that fits the lesson, choose Teams, and name the teams.
- 5–20Play. One or two 60-second rounds per team. Rotate the guesser each turn so everyone gets a go.
- 20–28Talk about the words. Open the results, tap the info button on a few words, and ask what people knew about them.
- 28–30Finish. Show the final scoreboard, and pray together.
Tips from playing it
- Round length: 60 seconds suits most groups. Try 90 seconds for younger kids and 30 seconds for a fast, loud round.
- Team size: four to six people per team keeps everyone involved.
- Mix decks: on the deck page, add other decks for more variety, or stick to one to focus on a theme.
- Words don't repeat: in team games, words already played are set aside until the deck runs out.
- Recording kids: recordings stay on the phone that made them. Please get permission from parents before sharing videos of children.
